It Takes a Village

Low cost spay/neuter for community cats is hard to come by in Contra Costa County. With long wait times at both Contra Costa Animal Services and Animal Fix Clinic, many trappers simply can not wait 1-3 months for appointments. Private veterinarians simply can not afford to match the grant funded low cost TNR prices, but are willing to help with the solution. With your financial help, we work with local private veterinarians to establish Trap Neuter Return (TNR) Funds. Money from this fund will be used by local trappers to offset the cost of TNR services. Like with Animal Fix Clinic, trappers will pay a small fee and the remainder of the service will be pulled from the TNR Fund. Appointments are required with each private veterinary office.

Tax Deductible Donation

By donating directly to PAWSitive Chances, donors will receive a tax deductible receipt and peace of mind that their money will be used to directly help control the homeless cat population. Currently, there is a TNR Fund at El Sobrante Veterinary Hospital.

Who You Help

Community cats, formally known as feral cats, affect us all. Due in large part to the pandemic and veterinary shortage in California, unfixed and unvaccinated animals were abandoned or lost. Those that survived coyotes, racoons, and being hit by cars reproduced and sought refuge with cat colonies. Colony caretakers keep a watchful eye on new arrivals and work to trap any cat with no ear tip.
